Wear a black turtle neck and accent the drab colors with some electric blue. The piece de resistance is clearly the knee high black patent leather boot.
You could achieve this modern edgy look easily. Look for heavy fabric in dark gray or black tones. It should have simple lines and a geometric shape.

Mary Jane with Attitude
The Encounter Mary Jane by Charles David is sweet and sassy. With its black patent leather, it achieves that school girl reference but with a serious edge. In other words, it is the mary jane all grown up into womanhood. This may be the most versatile shoe in your closet this season.
Here are two great looks for those cold fall days or the biting bitter winter ones and all you need is one great pair of mary janes! Pair a 3/4 sleeve wool coat over black leggings or a sweater dress with black tights and voila! instant chic look.

Milan's Pool Party
Is there a new David Hockney exhibit in Italy that we don't know about because it sure seems like a lot of designers had cool chlorinated pool water on their mind for Spring 2009. From Gucci, La Perla and Blumarine's deep tiled infinity edge pool blues to Moschino Cheap and Chic and Frankie Morello's Mexican resort aqua there was plenty of watery varieties.
Even Burberry had a bit of the fake watering hole, we think it looks a bit like a gray Connecticut country estate pool that someone forgot to cover for October.

Gladiator Shoes
When it comes to fashion, I love designing it but won’t bother wearing it. I follow fashion news and forecasts, but I don’t care about being in style. I’m so not fashionable.
Anyway, like many girls do, I love shoes (although I don’t have even a pair). Shoes symbolize sexuality, and these are the shoes that I really love.
I heard gladiator shoes is sooo ‘in’ next year. And I heard lavender is next year’s color, along with lime green, citrus orange, slate gray, bla-bla-bla. I just want to tell the whole world that I want a pair of that purple gladiator. They’d look kinky and strong! I want to wear them in bed. So I don’t have to buy any shirts and skirts to match the shoes.

Marc Jacobs Saved The New York Fashion Week
If Marc Jacobs leaves the New York Fashion Week, there won't be any point of putting up a whole week of events. There were metallic colors in deep red and blue with prints. There were also raised shoulders like what YSL did many years ago (but not those shoulders in the Seinfeld) and the silhouette was punctuated by wide belts.
Skirts were kept long (mid-calf) but the entire outfits were fluid and lean. There was much oversized jewelry and large handbags were nonexistent. The espadrilles didn't do much for me, but the heels with a single stick of steel and a little heel pad extension look perfectly proportioned and they elongated the entire look.
Fashion designers always provide certain restraints during recessions. I was always wondering what designers would do for the coming season and here is how it’s done. The immigrants, the nostalgia and the mirrors. The beautiful women showed us what the great America is all about.

The Easy Way Out
The SS09 collection is equally gorgeous, but it leaves me a little bit empty. I understand that designers need to be consistent and keep their directions clear. They have taken the easy way out to recycle their ideas from the previous season and even borrow ideas from the signature Balenciaga looks. It's not even a remix.
If you chose the first look the spring look because of the colors, you are WRONG. Nope, they are not from the same collection. The first is from FW08 and second is from SS09, shown in NYC yesterday. What's the point of doing the same look twice? U2 doesn't record Sunday Bloody Sunday every time they have a new album. Why do you, Rodarte?
Don't get me wrong, the dress is beautiful. The hard metal accessories and the fragile chiffon balance each other so well and the drape is so well done. Those two pictures, from afar, without contact lenses, look 100% Balenciaga to me. (The regulars here know how much I love Balenciaga.) Nope, they are also Rodarte. The first will fit perfectly with the looks from Balenciaga SS07 and the second look is produced by Balenciaga every single season.

Coach's New 'Legacy' Leather Satchel
Coach is huge over in the States, but I've never particularly understood why. The bags are ok, some of them quite nice like this new 'Legacy' leather satchel, however for the prices they charge ($698 for this one, for instance), you could get a much nicer designer one for the same amount.
Maybe it's because of their monogram collection - those on our Shiny Fashion Forums know how much I despise it, and maybe I'm prejudiced against Coach because of it.

Silhouettes baby dolls
Plenty of people in the Marc by Marc Jacobs crowd were still coming off the fashion high produced by his spectacular signature collection of the previous evening. More so than usual, his little-sister line provided a compelling sort of coda.
The mix and match, more is more sensibilities of one collection echoed the other's. There was even a bit of overlap in the silhouettes: Here, utility belts worn in multiples and sometimes slung with nylon fanny packs replaced Monday night's glittering sashes. But if the former verged on couture, this was kids' play. Silhouettes like baby dolls and trapeze dresses will get the youth vote, likewise the patchwork denim and the splashy prints.
Tweedy jackets with rolled-up sleeves and pants with paper-bag waists, though, have real crossover potential. And with the money those brocades will cost you, at least one thing's for certain.

The One-Piece Jumper Is Back
Surely after layering up all winter, spring's fashion will make your outfit choices easier — one piece is all you'll need. Jumpsuits are completely overtaking this season's runways.
Coco Rocha wore a denim variation over a striped camisole at DKNY, while Preen showed a shinier denim version on Ali Stephens. At BCBG, Diane Von Furstenberg, Elise Overland, and Malandrino, the suits took a silky, satin turn.
Not to be outdone, Derek Lam and Proenza Schouler glammed them up with sequins. But our favorite has to be the male equivalent shown at Thom Browne — both for the expert tailoring and for driving the androgynous direction of fashion even further and harder into our hearts.

Another Season, Another Stunner From Marc
Marc Jacobs rules this town. While other, younger designers spent today involved in a conversation Jacobs began eight months ago (full pants, wide shoulders, neutral palettes), Jacobs blasted forward with a collection that was unerringly focused, dynamic, and jam-packed with great ideas.
The accompaniment to the show was all Gershwin bombast, and there was much of the American in Paris about the slim, consistently waisted silhouettes — but that was just where it all began.
No one can mix like Marc Jacobs can mix: That American in Paris found her way to Montparnasse via the Masai, with shined up kente cloth, thick armfuls of bangles, and cleanly tied head scarves. And then came signature Seattle plaids, demonstrating how the substitution of one small element of a look (a Lurex-trimmed flannel singlet, for example) can switch the mood of a thing entirely. Fashion is, in Jacobs’s world, indeed about nuance, even as it is bright, happy-making, and completely optimistic.
Moreover, he’s cut way down on the drama: For the second season in a row, the show started quite nearly on time: No more three-hour wait times spent gawking at odd collections of the famous and greasy-haired. These days, Jacobs means business.
After all those rich, rich fabrics, the density of influence, the careful layering of ideas, Jacobs closed the show with three long, simple jersey dresses.

A Penny for Your Loafers
One of the must-have items of the season is, apparently, the good ol penny loafer. Penny loafers were named as such because they could be decorated with a penny (or often, a dime). I didn’t realize there was actually an urban legend behind this:
In 1934 John R. Bass (a bootmaker in Wilton, Maine) started making loafers and called them Weejuns. These had a strap across the upper part of the vamp that was shaped like a pair of lips. The mouth opening soon was used to hold an ornament (such as a penny), and thus penny loafers became a style. Penny loafers often held a dime instead of a penny. (From Wikipedia).
In the days of yore, the penny loafer was a low-heeled shoe through and through, with a strong masculine vibe. These days the penny loafer, just like the oxford, has gone through a high-fashion transformation.

Black patent 'Selisa' t-bar court shoes
This is a beautiful, classy shoe, which looks like it's just begging to be worn with a classic little black dress, Audrey Hepburn style. The black patent leather and elegant stiletto heel finish it of perfectly, and the tiny little t-bar is a nice detail.
These are £139 from LK Bennett, which is at the higher end of "reasonable", but probably a good price given how much wear you'd get out of these.

Trend spotting at the Australian Shoe Fair
From September 14-16, the Australian Shoe Fair will be on in Melbourne once again - proving itself to be the buying fair for the footwear industry. At the fair will be big name international and Australian shoe labels, as well as new and emerging talent. We've already got our eye on the shoe trends that will be spotted at the fair.
These two pairs from Windsor Smith are right on the money - bold, buckled and darn fierce, with a high, tapering heel. Reptile leathers were high up in our list of shoe trends for A/W08-09, while gladiator sandals and heels continue as the hottest trend for summer.
Also look out for flat jazz shoes, lace-up heels, and ankle boots - other trends sure to be well represented at the fair.
The Australian Shoe Fair will run in parallel with Fashion Exposed & Preview for the first time this year - so be sure to register now as there will be more to see at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre than you can imagine, and you'll need the full three days to get through it all!

Winter 2009 Fashion Trend
It's a luxury take on a bohemian look. Part peasant, part Cossack, part sex-goddess rock chic. And it's here for the colder months of 2008/2009 - largely thanks to an outstanding collection by Frida Giannini for Gucci's Fall (Autumn) / Winter 2008/2009 women's collection and men's collection.
Of course, 2009's Bohemian Luxury fashion trend has been a long time coming. With its most recent origins in the boho trend, it's strong gypsy and folk overtones mean that it might be the perfect personification of the foho trend.
That would be selling it short though.
While it is folk-inspired, and it is bohemian, it is also so much more. It has its roots in traditional folk elements - particularly Russian ones - but it fuses in luxury elements and rock-chic attitude.
The Key Elements:
* Billowy white peasant shirts
* Fringed boots
* Folk-inspired tooled leather pieces
* Embroidery and paisley prints
* Charm / coin belts and jewellery
* Luxurious fur or fur-trimmed pieces
* Fringed long skinny scarves
* Bed hair and smudged smoky eye-makeup

Fashion Trends 2008
The 2008 fashion trends can brag with a wide variety of models and textures. Creativity is what matters in this year. Mix the colors the printed materials the styles, the textures and you will get an unexpected result.
Choose huge accessories and small clothes, the variety and contrast rule in the 2008 fashion trends. There are also some retro comebacks in the fashion of this year. As you probably know, recycling the style of the previous years is a trend of the fashion in these last few years.
The fashion of these years will come back in style. So, check out old pics of your mom or some old magazines and see what was trendy back then. As a matter of fact, in 2007 there were some pieces imported from the 50s style, so you are not completely taken by surprise by this trend. So, everything that brings back the air of the fifties will be highly fashionable.
So, if you opt for dresses, they will go just below the knee. Trousers with stripes or short trousers will also be a hit in the 2008 fashion trends. Large knitted sweaters in any materials and colors are super hot. Wear these with some classy jeans and you will be updated with the latest novelties of this year. The Capri trousers can also be worn, combined with large blouses or over sized shirts.
In the 2008 fashion trends there will be a lot of mixture between styles. So the ethno style joins with the sporty clothes to give a creative outcome. The code for the 2008 fashion trends will be to get out of patterns. So, mix the styles the way you want and you will be very fashionable. All you need is some good taste in clothes and your imagination.
The colors that will be in style are the classy black and white, brown, grey and the printed materials with floral details, abstract or even geometrical patterns. The accessories that you choose should be over sized, so great earrings, rings, huge pendants and extra large bags will be just lovely to define your style. The materials for the accessories can be natural: wood or clay or plastic, which will not get out of style in the 2008 fashion trends either.

Dior Charming Cannage Satin Hobo, Silver Gray
The silver gray bag looks like a royal creation; it is made with smooth leather. Most importantly it has been made with great care. It is polished in silver from the outside. Unlike other bags it has rolled handles made of leather.
The handles are surrounded with subtle gathers which looks simply amazing. At the front you will find the pretty D logo. The bag has a magnetic snap closure and the interiors have zip compartments. Along with small pocket patch that is of great use. Last but not the least most importantly the embroidery work on the bag.

Classy And Sexy
Sexy and classy are the features to look for when buying cloths for this fall and winter. Its so nice to see the dress make such a huge comeback this year!
For fall and winter the waist has returned! Whether on a belted swing coat, a curvy dress or pencil skirt, the emphasis is on the waist. The fitted shift style dress provides a much-needed antidote to all the trapeze shapes of this past summer. The seriously girlie frock could be on its way out? The dress for fall is sexier and edgier -- but not skin tight -- so dresses will remain comfortable.

Dior's handbags for 2008's Resort collection
Catwalk Queen have reliably informed me that it's Resort collection time, and Dior are the first down the catwalk in New York with their designs for the, ahem, how should I say it...more wealthy customers, let's put it that way.
John Galliano, head designer at Dior, sent down many '60s designs which our sisters-in-the-know are calling 'Elizabeth Taylor-inspired'. The bags followed suit, with these pastel coloured pillbox-style shoulder bags done in patent leather, suede, and shown here, croc.
The evening bags Dior presented - with their hard cases covered in pastel satins and bejewelled with gems and ribbons, they look better suited for a 14-year old's first prom rather than a wealthy mature woman's accessory to be worn whilst on holiday in Spain.

Loeffler Randall clover scales pump
Cut to show off your foot to perfection, they feature scale like detail across the vamp of the shoe. To enhance the detailing, the underside of the pleating has been lined with patent leather.
There is something luxurious about jewel coloured suede shoes, and these Loeffler Randall Clover Scales Pumps are no exception.
Just don't forget to treat these shoes with a few sprays of a suede protector so they doesn't stain easily when they come into contact with liquids. They're way too pretty (and expensive at $425) to ruin.

Miu Miu Patchwork Tote
The patchwork adds a special touch, which gives the bag an everyday casual feel, and there is a removable strap for usability. I love this bag for an everyday bag, that will have a slouchy look right around your hip. I see it as a perfect practical bag, with a leather that is light, and sparsity of hardware which makes the bag light.
We adored the Lindsay Lohan ad that sported the silver and gold Miu Miu Metallic Patchwork bag. The colorful metallic version may have been too much for many of us to stomach, or use everyday, so I am thrilled to see Miu Miu has released the Miu Miu Patchwork Tote in black leather. The price is also great for the size of the bag (19″x12.5″x5″). Buy through Net A Porter for $1,445.

Bourne's satin Amy courts with rose
These 'Amy' courts would certainly only be appropriate for some very dressy occasion, with their two huge roses designed to be as eye-catching as possible.
Now that Bourne have made it onto my shoe radar I can't get enough of this brand, which specialises in making the type of shoes you'd wear to a wedding, or other very special event.
As well as this taupe/grey colour, these are also available in black, pale pink and white, with the latter two colours being particularly appropriate for brides or bridesmaids. They're £99 at Viva la Diva.

Coach Legacy Alligator Purse
To be honest, I have not seen a Coach Alligator Bag in person, so I will need your insight on this. Coach has continued to branch out to bring exotic materials to its clients. The Coach Legacy Alligator Pocket Flap is designed with imported alligator and leather trim on the iconic Coach Pocket Flap bag.
One thing that I find great about this bag is its functionality; with an inside zip pocket, cell phone pocket, ring to clip keys, and two outside front pockets. I have a major issue with the exotic outside that is then lined in fabric on the inside.
I would definitely expect a more luxurious interior for the price, like suede lining. Either way, Coach exotic purses already has fans in Rebecca Romijn, Mandy Moore, and Eva Longoria. This bag costs $7000 through Coach.
It is not just Coach that moved its factory to China, many designer houses have also moved. But those that remain with their “Made in Italy” tags are claiming a little more than they are worth at times. The fact is, many designers have the majority of their bag made in China and then some finishing touches are completed in Italy etc. And this renders a Made in Italy stamp? I think not.
Why am I talking about this? It is all about quality of what we are buying, and many times our luxury items are not high quality. This actually is not a start for me to go against Coach purses, but to say that they are not the only ones that have moved their factories to keep up with the demand and costs. Quality matters to me, and at times it is lacking.

Giuseppe Zanotti jewelled thong sandals
These will also be great on vacation, with that oversized purple jewel allowing you to dress them up or down as desired. For that price, though, I'd be really wary about leaving them lying around on the beach while you take a dip in the sea.
Casual Friday doesn't have to mean raking through the bargain bin: these jewelled thong sandals by Giuseppe Zanotti are the luxe (very luxe) way to do "casual", although at £415, you're going to need to wear them on more than just the odd Friday here and there to really get your money's worth.

Mulberry Leopard Bayswater Bag
The Mulberry Leopard Bayswater Bag which gives an exotic feel with navy leopard print patent leather. The reason this bag does not look leopard-trashy is due to the deep navy lather with the print, it is a color so deep and sultry but not bright and trashy. The Bayswater bag has double top handles and this version sports silver hardware and brown lining.
Some designers find a handbag that they have made a hit and continuously reinvent it with new materials, colors, and patterns. It doesn’t always work, but it most definitely works for some brands. Take the Mulberry Bayswater for example.
We have seen it in leather, pink ombre, purple ostrich, and even luscious green alligator. And each and every one of these versions I have loved. In fact, I wonder why I have not taken the jump yet and bought myself a Bayswater, since the sturdy yet somehow feminine design continues to intrigue me time after time. Now this version is a treat on the Net A Porter UK site £695 (approximately $1,271)
